Pollen

Rebecca Newnham

Pollen: Exine is one of a series of sculptures about pollen. This piece is about the hard shell than preserves the pollen for years in some cases, before the pollen finds its way to the stamen of an appropriate flower and hopefully fertilizes an egg. The exine has apertures through which the interior sperm escapes. This sculpture has 6, and is like a cage. Other pollen sculptures were about the sometimes spiky appearance of some types of pollen and another was a convex partly deflated sphere type grain. Pollen fly around in the air invisibly suspended, life charges on a parallel plain.
